Boiling: Rinse the millet grains thoroughly and then add them to boiling water in a ratio of 1:2 (one part millet to two parts water). Simmer covered for about 15-20 minutes or until the grains are tender and the water is absorbed.
Steaming: Similar to boiling, but instead of submerging the millet in water, you can steam it using a steamer basket or a rice cooker with a steaming attachment. This method helps retain more nutrients.
Pressure Cooking: Use a pressure cooker to cook millets quickly. Follow the same ratio of 1:2 (millet to water) and pressure cook for about 10-15 minutes.
Baking: Millets can be used in baking recipes to add texture and nutrition to bread, muffins, cookies, and other baked goods. Simply substitute a portion of the flour with millet flour or whole millet grains.
Porridge: Cook millets with a higher water ratio (1:3 or 1:4) to create a creamy porridge-like consistency. Add milk or plant-based milk, sweeteners, and flavourings of your choice for a nutritious breakfast option.
